“The land of the tattooed” employs a self-developed script. On the one hand, it plays around with oral history, protected knowledge and reciprocity. On the other hand, it is a reflection on epistemicide. For so many cultures, tattoo traditions once were vast knowledge systems, in which knowledge, writing and tattooing were synonymous to each other. Part of this erasure, flattened these knowledge systems into mere décor.
What may be assumed as frivolous ornamentation on a surface-level reading, reveals to be entire cosmologies, belief systems and (hi)stories systematically encoded throughout the works.
”đá và hoa hồng“ and “a scholar’s note” further investigate knowing through etic(the insider’s view) and emic(the outsider’s view) research.
